Vibrio tubiashii, Isolated from Kwang-An Beach in Winter Season

Abstract
This study was performed for the purpose of surveying the distribution and characteristics of the vibrios in Pusan Kwang-An Beach during the winter season in Korea were collected from sea water along the beach from February to March 1995. A
psychrophilic bacterium, Vibrio tubiashii (forty five strains), was identified by phenotypic biochemical characteristics. Colonies on TCBS agar are circular, translucent. Smooth and convex form. They do not pigmented and swarm on the brain heart
infusion agar plate. The isolates grow between 13-17¡É, but do not grow at 37¡É. The growth of bacterium was effectively inhibited by the vibriostatic agent O/129 (10¥ìg/disk), and NaC1 was found necessary for its growth. Hydrolysis of gelatin
but
no
hemolysis on the 5% sheep blood nutrient agar. Reduces nitrate to nitrite.
The positive biochemical reactions were as follows; oxidase, indol, methyl-red, arginine dihydrolase (7-days), glucose-acid, and the fermentation of sucrose, mannitol, maltose, trehalose, and cellobiose. The negative biochemical reactions were as
follows; H2S gas from KIA, Voges-Proskauer, Simmon's citrate, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase, and the fermentation of lactose, dulcitol. salicin, adonitol, innositol, sorbitol, arabinose, raffinose, and rhamnose
